Welcome to Crossing Cottage Greyhound Sanctuary
We are the Nottinghamshire and East Midlands branch of the Retired Greyhound Trust (RGT), a national charity that was established to ensure the long-term welfare of greyhounds after retirement from racing.Every year between eight and nine thousand greyhounds, aged from 2 to 6 years, retire from racing and, thanks to the efforts of the RGT, many of them are found new homes with families.
Greyhounds make wonderful family pets. They are intelligent, lovable, fun-loving, gentle creatures and make loyal companions for people of all ages. Many people think that greyhounds need lots of exercise. But the truth is they are sprinters rather than long distance runners. Two 20-minute walks every day is enough to satisfy them, although they are also happy to go on longer walks.
Our job is to find the right homes for our charges. The dogs we have available can be seen on this site and there is also lots of information about greyhounds and how to look after them. Have a look and then give us a call – or better still come to the kennels and meet the dogs at first hand. You’ll be very welcome!
Saturday and Sunday are open visiting days at the kennels from 10.00 am until 2.00pm.
Come along and get information about greyhounds, chat to current greyhound owners, meet the greyhounds and take one for a walk.
If you would rather visit during the week you could visit the same times Tuesday to Friday or if you wish to come later please call for an appointment 01636 822032
We look forward to meeting you soon!

Meet Our Sponsors
Our thanks go out to our sponsors, whose help is vital in helping with costs of running Crossing Cottage.
A message to our sponsors
To all current greyhound and kennel sponsors – due to the successful homing of three of our long term sponsor dogs we will be contacting the sponsor of those dogs to ask them to choose another greyhound. The greyhounds that have been successfully homed are Arthur, Elvis, and Maggie. Jane Lidster will be contacting you shortly with information of new sponsor dogs. Thank you all so much for your committment and dedication to supporting our long term greyhounds in the kennels.
FosteringWe have in the past not been in favour of fostering our greyhounds. However, we have some dogs in the kennels that we feel would benefit from being in a foster home.
